China was the big surprise for me on my trip. I didn't know what to expect, but what I experienced I couldn't have hoped for: friendly people in general and the most overwelming nature I saw on my trip. From arid mountainranges to the green 'Shangri La" I discovered near Tibet to the "stone forest" (a kind of open air cave) to the immense area of limestone formations in South East China. It was a lust for the eye all the way. Even with all the modern architectual monstrosities in between. | ![]() | ![]() |

Beautiful stone house in Dali Stone ovens outside Lijiang Tibetan monestary near Zhongdian
Luckely it was not destroyed during the cultural revolution. Where is Frodo?
Scenery around Yubeng. This was one of the highlights on my journey, after 3 hours of a very steep clime and one hour declining I found myself in this little village without cars, shops, roads or whatever. The village was so small that after a few days you knew (and liked) everybody. The nature in the valley was amazing. The villagers held a bowshooting competition for 3 days with a lot of drinking of their own homegrown liquer which was very tasty and strong. Unfortunatly I had to leave earlier then I wanted to get my visa extended. The last night I was there, there were singing and dancing performances. If there is a Shangri la, this must be the place. Tibetan cuisine
The Yak butter tea was excellent. The women dance... ...and the men make fun. | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() |

At a height of 2685 metres it was a bit to cold to go for a swim. Tiger leaping gorge, a beautiful one day hike | ![]() | ![]() |
